It Must Have Been Kitchen Appliance Day...

...because I had them all out...What a mess.

I wanted to use the new Griddler for something other than grilled cheese and grilling bread, so I marinated some chicken cutlets and put it to the test...so far I am liking it.
If I had remembered to get a pineapple, I could have tried that new pineappler gadget and grilled some of that too...another day..one less tool to wash today..

Next I wanted to make Date Nut Bread. I had bought a bag of dates at one of the clubs thinking I would make it for the holidays, but never got to it. There was enough in the bag to triple the recipe..so I did..
Out comes the big Cuisinart to chop the dates...they are mighty sticky and gave the machine a real work out...or maybe it is just dying...I hope not!

New little pro out to chop the walnuts...

Big mixer out to mix the batter...

Kitchen looking like a bomb hit it...vacuum at the ready for the nuts and stuff that I drop...

In between I made a big pot of stew...for another night..

So there you go, another day gone! And a mess to clean up!

And the last of the death by chocolate...I couldn't stand that big bowl in the frig anymore, so I repacked it into indiv bowls...not as pretty as the original, but the taste is the same..;)

Tomorrow, date nut bread and recipe, hope you'll come back for a taste!
I have fond memories of the Thomas' that came pre sliced with the paper around it, with a slather of cream cheese!

  1. Wow, Kathleen, you were a busy lady today.... I've always cut up my dates by hand... Never thought to use the food processor.

Where do you store your big pot of stew that you made for another night?

  2. Cynthia, I have some large tupperware type containers to hold it..They are about the size of a half pan for a chafing dish...very handy size for big pots of soup, etc..
As for the dates, the last time I was in Costco or Sams, they had the big bags all chopped...saves a step!
But I had already bought this bag and wanted to use them..

  3. My Gosh! You HAVE been busy Kathleen.

I can sure relate to the feeling of having used every appliance (and bowl, and tool in the kitchen) at times.

Everything looks sooo delicious. Your beautiful dessert. And I adore Date Nut bread, the mention of it has me craving.:)

I SPY beautiful Pear plates... they are gorgeous! I live in Pear county, can you please tell us about them?

  4. I swear I was just going to say what Mary said..I spy pretty pear plates.
Wherver you got them..you did well..Love the border too.

My Braun.. I almost killed it w/ dates and was left w/ a mess..There must be a better way.. That's what I love about date squares which I am now craving..they are cooked..
Also...The less fresh the harder to chop..the real fresh ones are so much easier.

  7. Monique, I don't remember having so much trouble chopping them the last time, I think I put too many in at a time...and yes they are sticky...the pre chopped are a much better option..

Mary and M, I got those wood chargers in Home Goods clearance, and Cami, the placemats are from WmSonoma Outlet, West End brand..on sale a few months ago, I think they came to about 2.50 each at 75% off...

Marsha, yes, I will post the recipe, there are many out there and I am sure all are good. Some use mousse, but I just use choc pudding...

Here you go Grim....You can do it with brownies instead of cake , and use any kind of candy bar you like...
Use a trifle bowl...I thought I had a pic of one I did in the big bowl, but I can't find it!
