Are you tired of the same old tablecloths…do you yearn for some colorful napkins? :)
Yes? Well, then make them..
I found these remnants at a designers fabric warehouse…they let me, the non designer, in..they let anyone with CASH in.. I spent FIVE whole dollars!!! It is good double sided cotton from Portugal…
Each piece was a DOLLAR, and are big enough for the round table in my breakfast nook/kitchen area table.
There was an extra piece with the lime green plaid, so he threw that in..thank you! I was able to get 7 regular napkins and a runt from it…
So my metamorphosis from remnant to….
a little breakfast table setting…Tablecloth..8 napkins.. total $1.00 .. almost free! :)
I sewed a line then fringed them, but really I don‘t think it is much faster than doing a hem..and then you have threads all over the place.:(
I may have to rethink the fringe idea!
I hope to use each one in a future tablescape..

My notes..
Make or use spaghetti sauce..Mike had made a pot of sauce and meatballs so I used homemade sauce..
I don’t think a can of crushed tomatoes would have good flavor…
I oiled my pan with olive oil...
Really stuff the meat, which I browned with finely chopped onions into each noodle…it makes them stand at attention..:)
I used a layer of ricotta/mozza mixture ..like you would make for lasagna or baked ziti..
Spread it over the meat…then the layer of mozzarella..
I know it sounds time consuming, but it wasn’t that bad…I would do this for an occasion..Like Super Bowl..or a family gathering..be sure to have extra sauce to serve with it.
I am going to try it again, I have another idea I want to try…but we will be eating this for a few more days!

I wish I had one of those fabric outlets! I used to collect fabric..got rid of most of it when I moved to Washington. My Grandmother and Mother sewed for me so I was always on the lookout. The cheap places I used to buy from all stopped carrying fabric. Now everywhere I see fabric it ends up cheaper to just go buy the finished product!

You can tell from the picture that the fabric is very nice quality. I love the tablecloth looks with the coordinating napkins. Some day I will do the same, but first I need to retire!

You've been busy, toots! Love the napkins- I might re-think the fringe, too. I don't like loose threads all over the place and they always clump. Who wants to comb napkin fringe? Not me- I already do it for my rugs! Love the mosaic, too. Warm beaches, aaahhh.... take me away. BTW, All the Christmas is down, finally! Now, to get it put away in the attic. :-)

ReplyDeleteLove the tablecloth and the fringe napkins. I am allergic to sewing:) Now the MS recipe looks wonderful. I will definitely try this one. I made homemade manicotti yesterday because I was sick of making soup. Let's just say the Goodyear tire company could hire me because I think I invented a flour/rubber product in my own kitchen with the recipe that was a disaster:) I think I will stick to making soup the rest of the week!

Our Joann Fabs had some lovely embroidered linen in the clearance section, so I will soon have a great (fringed) table cloth. If I had the patience, it would have been lovely to hemstitch, but that won't happen for a few more years!!

I too love making my own tablecloths and napkins, it is so easy...I used to make them from sheets with great designs and I could get the cloth and all the napkins out of one sheet i would always find the Ralph Lauren ones at ross on sale for 5.00, what a deal, love love your blog i am always visiting, thanks for the great posts I will sure try the pie it looks great, I love it when someone has actually tried a recipe and fixed the errors...lol love it...Phyllis
