I’ve Got A Metamorphosis, Mosaic, and Recipe~Who could ask for anything more??

Blog Labor 155

Are you tired of the same old tablecloths…do you yearn for some colorful napkins?  :)

Yes?  Well, then make them..

I found these remnants at a designers fabric warehouse…they let me, the non designer, in..they let anyone with CASH in..  I spent FIVE whole dollars!!!  It is good double sided cotton from Portugal…

Each piece was a DOLLAR, and are big enough for the round table in my breakfast nook/kitchen area table.

There was an extra piece with the lime green plaid, so he threw that in..thank you!  I was able to get 7 regular napkins and a runt from it…

So my metamorphosis  from remnant to….

 Blog Labor 166

Blog Labor 167a little breakfast table setting…Tablecloth..8 napkins.. total  $1.00  ..  almost free!  :)

I sewed a line then fringed them, but really I don‘t think it is much faster than doing a hem..and then you have threads all over the place.:(

I may have to rethink the fringe idea!

I hope to use each one in a future tablescape..

Please stop by Susan’s At Between Naps On The Porch for Metamorphosis Monday..

The Recipe..Rigatoni Pie…from Martha Stewart

You can find the recipe here

My notes..

Make or use spaghetti sauce..Mike had made a pot of sauce and meatballs so I used homemade sauce..

I don’t think a can of crushed tomatoes would have good flavor…

I oiled my pan with olive oil...

Really stuff the meat, which I browned with finely chopped onions into each noodle…it makes them stand at attention..:)

I used a layer of ricotta/mozza mixture ..like you would make for lasagna or baked ziti..

Spread it over the meat…then the layer of mozzarella..

Blog Labor 142

I know it sounds time consuming, but it wasn’t that bad…I would do this for an occasion..Like Super Bowl..or a family gathering..be sure to have extra sauce to serve with it.

I am going to try it again, I have another idea I want to try…but we will be eating this for a few more days!

  1. Kathleen, I hope your "let's think warm" works ... I'm already done with winter. Of course, my warm doesn't come with a beautiful bay and gorgeous blue sky.

Love the fabrics ... beautiful plaids and the price IS right.

Your rigatoni looks delicious. I love how they stand up. It does sound time consuming, but definitely worth it. Great pictures!

  2. Love the tablecloth and napkins..since I am a non-sewer I like the unfinished edge of the napkins!

The rigatoni looks delicious - I chuckled at the part of the recipe that said " Stuffing the meat into the holes is a weirdly satisfying task. Enough said." !!

From your lips to God's ear about getting warmer!! I,for one, am more the ready for Spring!

  3. I love your fabrics. I make my tablecloths all the time and I have also made the napkins. Such a savings, and you can get the pattern that you want. Your tablescape is just gorgeous. I love it. Your receipe sounds so good. I will have to give it a try. Hugs, Marty

  4. LOL, yes, keep thinking warm, Kathleen! At least it's sunny! You need a puppy to keep you warm and snuggly :) hahaha!

That rigatoni looks fantastic! Have to make it, definitely with extra sauce on the side! Love how you lined up the sides!

great idea with the fabrics! Very pretty!

  6. So much to love in this post! I love the tablecloth and napkins (is that fabric warehouse local?) and I love that yummy looking dinner! and I really really love that warm weather mosaic! Have a great week and thanks as always for sharing.

  8. Oh Kathleen,
You always got my number on fabric! Love all your choices and I love making napkins and table runners, sew easy, hehe, and so much cheaper! I really like the fringed look, may try that next time. The food looks fabulous of course! Cindy

  9. I wish I had one of those fabric outlets! I used to collect fabric..got rid of most of it when I moved to Washington. My Grandmother and Mother sewed for me so I was always on the lookout. The cheap places I used to buy from all stopped carrying fabric. Now everywhere I see fabric it ends up cheaper to just go buy the finished product!

I wanted to try that Rigatoni pie too! Glad to hear its not as much trouble as it looks. Keep showing us those summer shots..

  10. Fabulous deals on the fabric Kathleen. They look to be of good quality too which makes all the difference between a good deal and a bad one.
I feel for all you freezing cold people down south of me. Did you know it was warmer here in Vancouver, British Columbia than it was in Florida yesterday.
I know? Canada warmer than the southern US. Would it be mean to snicker? Giggle.

  14. I just told my hubby that there are more cool outlets in your area. I am outlet deprived!

Love the fabrics! Warm weather is always a nice thought...I have fog...and the pie. Yum!

  15. You can tell from the picture that the fabric is very nice quality. I love the tablecloth looks with the coordinating napkins. Some day I will do the same, but first I need to retire!

The recipe sounds good, and I like the way you lined up the pasta like soldiers.

I can feel the warmth in your mosaic.

Perhaps I can join the Valentine party on the 12th.

  16. I don't sew...at all. I do however do that iron-on stuff, so I am planning on making a few tablecloths. I just won't be able to wash them often!

Love the mosaic...I long for warm weather.

  17. You've been busy, toots! Love the napkins- I might re-think the fringe, too. I don't like loose threads all over the place and they always clump. Who wants to comb napkin fringe? Not me- I already do it for my rugs! Love the mosaic, too. Warm beaches, aaahhh.... take me away. BTW, All the Christmas is down, finally! Now, to get it put away in the attic. :-)
    hugs, Sue

  27. Love the fabric Kathleen.
I'm a sewer so I can appreciate what a great deal you got.

Your Rigatoni pie...is just like 'Mama's'.. and she 'Lived To Cook'... I never had that much patience for all that 'stuffing'.

I'm with you on 'Let's Think Warm'
Makes you wonder about 'Global Warming'!!

  28. Love the tablecloth and the fringe napkins. I am allergic to sewing:) Now the MS recipe looks wonderful. I will definitely try this one. I made homemade manicotti yesterday because I was sick of making soup. Let's just say the Goodyear tire company could hire me because I think I invented a flour/rubber product in my own kitchen with the recipe that was a disaster:) I think I will stick to making soup the rest of the week!

I'm making your rigatoni pie for sure! It looks soooo good.

  33. Well Ms. Kathleen, have you been looking in the window?? As we speak I have been making a couple of new table cloths and napkins. Our Joann Fabs had some lovely embroidered linen in the clearance section, so I will soon have a great (fringed) table cloth. If I had the patience, it would have been lovely to hemstitch, but that won't happen for a few more years!!
I love you plaids and can't wait to see the tablescapes! The pasta dish and recipe look delish!! I will be trying it out next week!
    Thanks for posting,
    J

  35. Okay Kathleen, I'll get the fabric, and then I'll send it to you to make me some napkins and tablecloths (Sadly, I don't sew). I hate to tell you this, but I really like the fringe on the napkins! Yum, that rigatoni pie looks delicious. On second thought, I think I'll BRING the fabric to you, and I can eat your food while you make me some t.c. and napkins! Your mosaic made me feel a little warmer. Has your snow melted? It's getting warmer here, but still feels cold to me. Thank you so much for advertising my party! You're such a sweetie. laurie

I love your fabrics - what a shopper you are - it scares Ken when I tell him but he would love that $5 price tag, LOL. I especially love the soft green color.

Its a new year now, do you think M. will really ever get us together?
