Flashback and Foodie Friday

Friday means food..with Gollum and Suzy for her Flashback Friday...Please stop in at their blogs to see the other entries..

First, dear bj, this is in your honor..

We have been having an on going dialogue and bj has been educating this NY girl about her TX nuts! :)

So when I baked yesterday, I used PECANS in my Banana Bread instead of walnuts..

Photobucket

The ones on the right are banana, and Irish Soda on the left...this is minus the ones I gave out this morning.
My theory is if you are making a mess, might as well make a big one, and bake a lot at the same time..

The Soda Bread recipe is ....

Irish Soda Bread....Kathleen

4 C flour
1 t salt
4 t baking powder
1 t baking soda
3/4 C sugar
2 t caraway seed
1 C raisins
1 egg
1 t vanilla
2 C buttermilk
1/4 stick of soft butter

Sift dry ingredients. Mix in the seeds and raisins. Add buttermilk and vanilla and mix.

Add beaten eggs and soft butter, mix

Put into 2 greased loaf pans, or 1 10 in round. Slit the top with a knife.

Bake at 350 about 30 to 35 for loaf pans, 50 for round.
Brush with butter or milk 10 min before removing from oven.
Check center to see if done, do no over bake..

I know a lot of you are harvesting eggplant now, and the local farm stands are filled with them..
So eggplant parmigiana, sliced thin and piled high, is on the menu...

For my Flashback Friday, I link you to the directions on how to make this...

Sausage bread directions

I have to tell you this post took hours! I was constantly kicked off by that dating service.
I have tried to get Blogger help, with no avail...
So many of you have told me it is happening to you, yet others seem to have no trouble...
Tootie thought it was my counter, so I switched to hers..still happened..
I deleted some gadgets, cleared my cache and cookies, ran spybot and other detection devices, and still it pops up!
If anyone know how to get Google to help, please email me..
Thanks so much! I am pulling my hair out trying to fix it..
And thanks for your visit...

  1. Kathleen,

Your breads look wonderful and I agree, bake alot, clean up once!! Thanks for the recipes!!

I had the same problem last night going to your blog for a post you had made and kept getting the dating serv. Funny though, the title of your post made it even stranger~"Tablesc...and a Blogger Meet" It was too weird!!

Hope you get it sorted out, Kathleen!

    xoxo

  2. WHEW....I just kept trying and FINALLY got to read before HE came back on! Good grief..I just can't imagine why that is happening. At first, I thought you were kidding...I don't think I had seen it before. But tonight, it is popping up every few seconds. Can you contact them and see if THEY can do something about it? I don't know much about this kind of stuff and never have been able to figure out how they can just come into your blog like that. Strange...
I hope you get it fixed because I know it is bothersome. It would bother the freakin heck out of me!
Sorry it is happening and wish I knew something to try but I surely don't.
That bread looks so good..I have heard of Soda bread all my life but have never had it. May make some tomorrow...sure sounds good..
    Night night, friend...

I do hope someone came help you figure it out.

I've never tried banana bread with pecans but I love them so I'm amazed I've never thought of it. That's a lot of bread!

  4. I'm just thinking....when I came to your site from my comment section, I got THE MAN...but, when I came over from my dashboard, from my Followers thingy, I didn't get it. Don't know if there's any difference or not...

  5. Yes, bj, I have been told that through the followers thing it doesn't happen...
Thanks for your patience getting here, and don't put pecans in the soda bread! :)
Spread it with some butter or jam and have it for breakfast..delicious!

  6. And I'm not sure if I should be thankful I haven't gotten it yet or not...The Man..sounds intriguing.. But I haven't gotten it one time. I'm using Mozilla as my browser, but I think I've heard others have gotten it using mozilla..so that must not be what's different. I think BJ has a good suggestion on contacting them. It can't hurt. Just where your blinders and wash your hands once you're done there lol.

Great flashback. I think that sausage bread is so pretty! And pecans are my thing too. My grandmother had huge trees in her yard and we'd pick them, crack and peel them. Some of my most vivid memories of my grandmother are of here sitting at the kitchen table picking through the pecans. I like walnuts too, but pecans are my fav in everything.

  7. Update on THE hijacker..
I found an email and phone number. They are located in Colorado.
I emailed them...I'll let you know if they answer...or just stop!
    Thanks for your patience...

  8. Kathleen, I haven't had the hijackers for quite a while but I also come to visit through google reader. I hope they are more honest in communication with you then they are in "taking over" your blog without your knowledge!

I love pecans and even though I know walnuts have more healthy oils in them, I still sub pecans for them in brownies, cookies, etc.

I remember that sausage bread...I love flashbacks because it reminds me of things I wanted to try and forgot ;)

  9. Guess it's good I haven't been blogging...haven't had the pop up fella! The eggplant looks wonderful, and ironically it's what we're doing tonight for dinner! My husband found a few beauties yesterday. It's his favorite. I'm so curious...what do you do with all of your baked goods???

  10. Hi Kathleen! Your food looks yummy! Yes, being from Georgia, I am also a big believer in pecans instead of walnuts. They seem sweeter. The eggplant looks wonderful...my favorite Italian dish! I haven't encountered the Hijacker so far. Enjoy your weekend...Debbie

  12. Now,Kathleen...you're gonna have to explain what you mean about
"bj's Texas nuts"...now I'm a girl so there's no nuts hanging around here...
O, ok...I see you DID explain ...heh heh heh....

  13. I'm using firefox and adblcok and never got the imeetzu before tonight. I usually go through a direct link, Kathleen, but this time I went directly to this post from the dashboard, and got imeetzu! I have no clue!

The breads look great! Sausage, too, I'll pass on the eggplant, but it looks amazing, save a piece for Jodie, she loves!

  15. I'm in love with pecans. Here in North Carolina, we have the most wonderful fresh young pecans. They are so rich, sweet and buttery tasting. I like to mix them with walnuts when baking for the best of both worlds. Love your blog. Thanks for visiting mine. Would love to exchange links. Let me know if you're interested.

  18. Kathleen, what a lot of baking, and I like your theory about a messed up kitchen. Why not?

I, too, remember the sausage bread ... looks and sounds so yummy.

So what did you think of the pecans in the banana bread?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Cynthia, I didn't keep any of the loaves with pecans, but the people who rec'd them like them..now would they be able to tell the diff between a pecan or walnut in the bread..I don't know! :)
