Blog discovery..
I came upon Lilly's Home Journal. What a find!
Lilly is a fellow Long Islander and her blog has great recipes and tutorials . Stop over and get inspired!

Tablescape Thursday~Lots of color!

I have had these place mats for years, and since my gkids were out this week for vacation, I decided to do a little fun table .



I wanted to use the colors in the mat..

A light green plate, $1 dark blue salad from the Pfaltzgraf clearance center before they closed them all :(, red lion head for the ketchup, light green fish shaped butters..



Dark blue tablecloth, light blue napkins trimmed with red rick rack..(actually an after Christmas sale from Martha at Kmart...50 each)
Little colorful fish napkin rings, sailboat salt and peppers, a few crabs atop a blue pedestal plate for the centerpiece...



Light green fish serving dish...I substituted blue tumblers when the kids came..:)



Dessert..cake baked in this fish pan..saving that for a later post...



I made another of those fresh fruit cakes, this time I mixed peaches and plums...

SHARK!!! Outdoor Wednesday

Well, just one..


And it was a kite, at the ocean..:)

Now that I have your attention..let's go on a little field trip..not far, right here in Southampton.
Put on your water shoes, grab your carpenters apron, get your rakes and cooler..cause we are going
CLAMMING!

On the way to the secret clamming spot..one that hasn't been "clammed out" :), we will pass Shinnecock Golf Course..where the US Golf Open was held a few June's ago...
They haven't invited me to join yet..:)



Then we pass the new course, Sebonack




Sebonack Golf Course..you can read about here....
It's a beauty..and no invitation from them either...

Rachel Ray lives in this area, but she hasn't called to invite me for tea yet!

Now we arrive at a very pristine spot...



One lone clammer...hey, I think I know him!


He has his permit..



This is the first time the gkids have gone clamming..

First they meet..



The Horseshoe Crab is dead, so after Nana tells them they are amongst the oldest living creatures, more closely related to the spider than a crab, and that they are used for research to cure diseases, that their blood is blue......and so on...(Nana sometimes gives TMI)

My oldest grandson decides it is safe to pick up, but he sure didn't like the smell...:)



They all set to work....very muddy in spots, don't sink in!



And before long, they had enough clams..never take more than you can eat!

But not before the littlest clammer, 20 months old, fell seat first into the cooler holding the clams...I wish you could have seen the look on his face!



The catch...sitting in a cooler with fresh water continually flowing..throw in a little corn meal so they clean themselves well..



And tomorrow they will be...Clams on the half shell( for the brave..)



Or Baked Clams...




And the big ones..Long Island Clam Chowder...

Foodie and Flashback Friday~Happy Birthday Debbie

Today I am joining Gollum for Foodie Fri.and Suzy at Kitchen Bouquets for Flashback Friday.

First for Flashback..A birthday cake for my dear friend Debbie at Mountain Breaths.
It's a milestone for her, and best wishes as well as this blueberry filled whipped cream cake is sent her way!





Blow out the candle and make a wish, Debbie! Many healthy returns!!



And for Foodie Friday I share this,,,Shrimp Bisque..
I am tweaking the recipe, and it's not there yet..so when I get it the way I want it, I will share it..
Save those shells from the shrimp, you need them to make the stock..



Anyone else having problems with Photobucket???...I started this post this morning, but PB was being difficult!

Tablescape Thursday~Yellow and Lime green

Joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday, please stop by her blog to see the other entries..

I found this square pillow sham in the clearance at Pottery Barn Outlet..I loved the colors..but had no idea what I would use it for...
I thought it would work as a topper on one of those little round decorator tables..

So..I started from there, added a little yellow watering can filled with white hydrangea..on top of a plain white polished cotton cloth..



I added a yellow beaded plate from WSonoma outlet, on top of a white charger from Noritake..and a square bowl from Pfaltzgraff..



Lime green napkins trimmed with polka dots with a watering can ring, yellow ramekins for a roll, green stems and matching tumblers from Pfaltzgraff clearance center..Garden of Eden I think is the pattern..



4 Green votives and glass indiv butter dishes...lime green pedestal plate



And that's today's table!





And for dinner..
I had a fresh pineapple I had to use, so I made pineapple chicken over rice with snow peas..

Outdoor Wednesday...Church at the Bay

First, I want to remind everyone there is another Let There Be White (Part II) event,
Aug 25th.
Since so many of you joined in last time, to keep it interesting for you, let's add ONE color to the table..white dishes, but one other color for flowers, napkins, glassware, whatever.
OR, if you didn't do it the first time, and want to do all white, that's fine too..
Hope you will join in, it's before Labor Day, so we can still wear WHITE! :)

I am joining Susan at A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday.

I live in a Beach Colony by the Bay. Every summer we are blessed, (literally:) ) to have Saturday evening Mass on the lawn by the Bay. It is truly a wonderful experience, and the families who live there, just walk over for the service. Kids abound, so there is always a little diversion going on. But it is a small, family friendly community, so no one minds in the least.

Some bring chairs, others just stand...



Here my youngest gson tries to escape his stroller to roam around with the rest of the kids...Next year there will be no keeping him in!







And we are always thankful for good weather, and pray that the jellyfish don't arrive till summer is over!

Continuing in a water theme..



Summer is fleeting, and I hadn't used my little shrimp napkin rings..so a little whimsical table..I have to use these "treasures" to justify keeping all this stuff!
The Dish Police are always at the ready to throw out these things I absolutely NEED!



Fish shaped glass charger, fish shaped dinner plate and bread and butter..blue and white striped napkin..



Dark blue cloth, lighter blue fish net, look closely, see it? :)..blue placemat



Lighthouse candle lights, the top opens so you can put a tealight inside, shells, white fish ramekins for the melted butter, sailboat salt and pepper shakers..and little shell candles..



And for dinner..grilled shrimp, sliced steak, and parmesan potatoes..salad..



Fresh fruit for dessert..

Chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookie on a stick...rolled cookies cut with a leaf cutter dipped in chocolate, heart shaped sugar cookies, and cookies filled with chocolate made in molds shaped like nuts..

I think I am doing shellfish next week, so those of you are allergic, take a Benedryll first..:)

LET THERE BE WHITE II tablesetting event.. Aug 25th....white dishes with one other color ( not counting silverware etc) So..WHITE dishes and ONE other COLOR, or all white if you prefer...
