Lots to talk about tonight! A few easy, frugal centerpieces to show you, and the table with the bargain German China , a recent purchase. (two different centerpieces)
I started with white 15 in. place mats ( cloth doilies) from the .99 and under store. Those .99 and up stores are mostly up, so I like this one!
The charger and salad plate are the Hutschenreuther, (they were on sale, and then buy one, get one free , so 2.50 for the charger, 1.00 for the salad) and the kiwi dinner plate is the one Alma picked up for me for .98 in Reading.
The green twist flatware is by Cambridge, via Cmas Tree Shop. Napkins from WSonoma Outlet, .99! I got them a few years ago, but haven't used them yet. 8.00? no way!
I tied them with the 100 % pure silk broomstick napkins I got on my last shopping marathon with Alma. They were marked down to .49.
The pale lime cabbage leaf plate is from WSonoma Outlet, on sale.
Purple stems from HG and green hobnail, recent from CTS.
On to the centerpieces.
We all have these wine glasses from the dollar store. You can pick them up for a lot less at yard sales.
Cut a piece of wet floral foam, oasis, to fit the top of the glass. Use the glass as the cutter. Wrap the bottom in Saran wrap, so it doesn't drip into the glass. I got these large balloon years ago from Fortunoff's, for .25. They have a top, so with the cover on it looks like a large egg on a stem.
Fill the bottom with whatever you want. For St. Patrick's Day I used green glass shamrocks, today I used mini eggs and shredded paper grass.
Next to the glass, I had these purple votive holders, .99 including 2 candles. :)
I noticed the indented top, so I put a small piece of floral foam and a few blooms.
A bunch of flowers from the supermarket, or your yard if you are lucky enough to have them, will fill the tops of several glasses. Perfect if you want to run them down the middle of the table.
Here, I removed the foam and flowers from the top of the glass, and placed it on a small cake pedestal flanked by the votive holders with flowers.
All these were done with one bunch of flowers from the market!
Here's another glass done with jelly beans.
I know some, like Shelia from Note Songs, love their faux blooms. Perfect for that. Get some faux greens, a few blooms...and there you go!
One last one with free containers. I save the glass after the candles inside burn out.
Here I used a square, with a small votive glass nestled inside some candy eggs. I didn't use them last year, so they were stale, but for this they are fine! :)
Here are all 3 done with the glass.
BJ, I hope this wasn't too sameo, sameo for you! :) I tried!
As this is the last week for meatless Fridays for me, I share this pecan encrusted filet of sole, and rice done with spinach, salt and lots of pepper, feta, scallions and a splash of half and half for creaminess.
Cook your rice, chop some fresh spinach, scallions, and stir in. Add the feta , pepper, and enough half and half to make it creamy. Heat through, I put mine in the oven on bake till the fish was done.
Prepare your fish the way you usually do, but add lots of crushed pecans to the bread crumbs or Panko. Still tasted like fish to me, but the others enjoyed it!

Lovin' your gorgeous napkins and neat ideas for the centerpieces K! Thanks for the fun give-away, I used to get Taste Of Home and it was a good magazine. Happy Easter:@)
ReplyDeleteYou make it look so darn easy.....cause you are multi talented!!!! Love all those arrangements and the purple/green theme. I have eaten pecan crusted chicken, but never tried it with fish. Another great giveaway, I am being selfish but I do want in (again!). lol xo
ReplyDeleteIt is easy Barbara! The oasis makes it easy!
DeleteYou have inspired me to get some flowers and try a centerpiece like this. So cute and creative! I love your dishes and the colors of purple and green just pop! I would love a great cooking magazine so count me in! hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteI do love the centerpieces--I did centerpieces too this week! My Easter table is not set yet :) I have never read Simple and Delicious but it sounds like the kind of cooking I enjoy. I know you don't like fish but that recipe sounds delicious! Pecans!! I usually just make creamed spinach and the rice separately. This would be a good alternative if Will would eat the veggies and rice "touching" each other! Happy Easter! Linda
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table, Kathleen! I love all the flowers and the vases filled with candy...I have to try that but I can already see the kids plucking the flowers out to get at the sweets!! lol! I also LOVE your napkins! Very elegant! Another giveaway? You are so generous! I think Simple and Delicious would be the one for me! Thanks for hosting Let's Dish! :)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Well... totally love the idea of putting the flowers in the large balloons.. I have something a bit larger, but they would work wonderfully.. omg, a new idea gleaned from you!! Love your pretty Hutschenreuter!! Loving the colors.. Fresh and vibrant.. just like spring blossoming all over your table.. thanks for hosting! xo marlis
ReplyDeleteOh how I love this color combination. The purple and green are just fabulous. Those broomstick napkins are really cool looking. I had fun seeing all your flower arrangement ideas, too. Thanks for hosting. Blessings on your Easter...
ReplyDeleteI'm still getting ready for Let's Dish. My Easter table is not set yet because I don't like dust on my plates :) So I'm doing a table for two just for you! I know you don't like fish, and I can't twist your arm, but the recipe sounds delicious and I am going to the fish man on Thursday. Happy Easter! I'll be back to comment again after I post.
ReplyDeleteYou have outdone yourself again! The new German dishes are just gorgeous and you played off them masterfully.
ReplyDeleteYour instructions for the centerpieces kind of went over my head, but yours certainly are pretty! I don't have much talent for flower arranging, I am afraid.
Thanks for hosting the party -- and I think dinner looks delicious!
Ellen
Even with oasis, Ellen? Put all your filler in, I often use pachysandra as I have a lot of it. Then just stick the flowers in. Try it, very easy!
DeleteThis is beautiful Kathleen. The centerpiece is fabulous and of course I love those dishes!
ReplyDeleteI'll be back with my post later tonight or in the wee small hours of tomorrow morning.
Kathleen, You have done such a pretty and economical job on your table. I love those silk broomstick napkins. They give your table such a special flair! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting... it is so fun to see what everyone does with their dishes!
Yvonne
Your table is beautiful and there is so much to see! How festive! And thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteYes please enter my name in your drawing! :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ideas for all the centerpieces, Kathleen! I think my favorite is the one on the cake pedestal. Thanks for hosting and Happy Easter to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteYour new china is wonderful...it's going to be so versatile in different designs. I really like it. The leaf salad plate is also really pleasing....I like it a lot! Good job on the centerpieces....stale candy....I like it....the idea, not stale candy. Thanks for hosting us again. I'd love to be considered for Taste of Home...Happy Easter! Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteIf I was really hungry I would probable eat the stale candy, the bag was unopened! :)
DeleteI love the centerpiece idea of using the flowers with the jelly beans or candy eggs. That is just so cute! I also love all the colors used in your setting. I really enjoyed seeing how you used your newest dishes too! Your whole setting is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI really like the kiwi plate with the new German dishes. You nailed it! The broomstick napkins are unique and they remind me of cabbage leaves. They go well with the leaf plates. I'll have to remember the centerpieces for next Easter. I love the one with the jellybeans. I would choose Simple and Delicious since I already subscribe to Taste of Home. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThey can be used for any holiday. I can see little pumpkins, or red white and blue for Memorial Day or July 4th!
DeleteI love your lime/white/purple table...those broomstick napkins are great to tie around the larger ones. You always do centerpieces that look like a million!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting, Kathleen.
All so pretty but I especially loved all of the flower arrangements in the stemware.
ReplyDeleteThe green in many of your dishes is what is happening in my kitchen now. It began with a set of three graduated serving bowls that I got when we emptied my moms house. I liked them and display them on a cabinet. It grew from there. I found napkins at CTS and placemats from my mom and it all looks fresh against the white in my kitchen. A couple of the pieces are in the photo in my blog header.
Oh, I am excited about your new give away!
Everything look so pretty. Thanks so much for hosting. And for a fabulous giveaway :-)
