First of all, thank you, ML..I won the Irish Coffee glasses in her give away. BTW, she is doing one every week..so hop over and get in on the fun!
I made a Seafood dinner..we observe Lent so meatless Fridays.
A baked clam with mozzarella, 3 panko fried shrimp, and a crab cake…Home made cole slaw..
Here’s the crab cake alone..
Cathy at Wives with Knives gave me the recipe…and she said she will post it in the future. But her excellent tartar sauce is here .
Crunchy on the outside, moist in the middle..
And I found the perfect plate for it..( last summer at CTS)
For my Flashback I am doing Date Nut Bread. I think all of 10 people looked when I first posted it..:)
Dee's Date Nut Bread
1 1/2 c hot water
1 1/2 c dates, pitted and chopped
2 t baking soda
1 c white sugar
1 t salt
1 t melted butter
1 egg
1 t vanilla
1 c chopped walnuts
2 3/4 c all purpose flour
Preheat oven to 350.
.
Grease loaf pan
Pour hot water over the dates and let stand until cooled
Sift flour, baking soda, together, add sugar and salt.
Stir in the cooled dates and water.
Add melted butter, egg, vanilla and walnuts
Mix well
Pour into greased pan
Bake at 350 1 hr or until toothpick comes out clean
Cool on a wire rack...
I add a splash of OJ to the mixture..
I made 2 in a 3 1/2 cup fluted pan that I have had for ages..no marking on them other than the measurement....

Bedtime and now I'm hungry. Crabcakes are way at the top of my favorite food list...yummy, that entire meal looks fabulous. I also love date nut bread. My dad used to make it for Christmas, but he hasn't for several years now. Maybe I'll take over the job!

ReplyDeleteI have never, not even once, tasted CRAB ! Now, you know how I feel about anything that comes out of the water so I probably will go to my grave without crab ever crossing these olden lips...
NOW, the Date Nut bread/cake is a whole 'nuther story. I LOVE IT. I have a recipe from my Aunt Lola from 1960 that I make every now and then...and usually sit down and cry because I miss her so much.
I will surely give your recipe a try.
How fun that you are having a St. Patrick's Day party. I will do my very best to come up with SOMEthing. I have not one decoration for the day...hmmmm

forgot to ask if you have the homemade coleslaw recipe posted on your blog? I'll go hunting...it looks really delicious & I'd love to try making it, as I HATE mediocre coleslaw. There is a place in FL that has a wee bit of pineapple in their recipe & it is AWESOME. I'll have to try to find that one, too.

Well, I forgot to defrost my fish, and we are snowed in, so I am officially jealous of your gourmet Lenten dinner, Kathleen! If we keep shoveling, we may be able to get to you in time for dinner! :) Hope you're warm and not too snowed in. We're at about 11 inches so far.

This fish dinner is a far cry from the meals we used to have when I was growing up! Do ya remember fish sticks and tuna casserole? LOL I need to come up with a crab cake that Mr. S can eat. The crab cake looks so good - much better than any I have made! Noticed the little red lion bowl - I've been using them for slaw and other small sides!

My mom used to buy date nut bread when I was a little girl and I loved it with cream cheese. As a young bride it was one of the first recipes i looked for. We do seafood Fridays too- this looks delicious!

And to have those wonderful crab plates to set it on would make it taste even better! Congrats on winning the Irish Coffee Mugs - very fitting that someone Irish won them!
