Good evening, hope the first 9 days of 2013 were good for you!
Don't forget the Jan. 23 challenge is SNOW or ICE or Winter related. Hope you will put on your woolen caps and think of something! Southern gals, I know this might be tough for you, especially if you don't get much winter weather...
It was a gray day here, not cold, but gloomy.
I had 2 of these gray wool fringed throws that I have never used.. Kohl's, after the season, so I think they were 5 bucks each. I think they look a little masculine, so I tried to keep that look.
The salt and peppers are from Pfaltzgraf Tent Sale, 1.00...
The centerpiece is a pip berry white wreath with a hurricane and wintery white candle
The ribbed glassware has a black foot, so I went with gray, black and white.
Black charger, gray rimmed plate with a white center from the .99 store.
Treble clef black flatware, black white and gray check napkins, .96 clearance.
Lions head covered soup bowls from WS Outlet.
Little lion head bowls for our butter from Target..
Black mugs by Nautica. I got them years ago at the Pflaltzgraf Clearance center for .26, and they are made in the USA! The glasses were from there too.
It closed several years ago, and maybe it is a good thing as they had fantastic deals. There was always something new. You really could get carried away! (One time the fire alarms went off and the whole group of stores had to be evacuated. I hadn't been able to complete my purchase, so I walked to another part of the outlet, shopped, and then went back to pay for my bargains!)
No little fire was stopping me, lol! I know, that is really pathetic. I am reformed. :)
People used to go there and buy things and put it on ebay and charge unreal prices!
I hope you are cozy and warm this winter day!
That's it for my simple, manly table. DH doesn't like a lot of "accoutrements" cluttering up the table, so perhaps he will approve of this one.
He does like food cluttering the table, and this is last night's dinner...
Romaine salad with feta and bacon, shrimp, and seafood cakes... I made the cakes with shrimp, crab, onion, celery, lemon juice, egg, a little mayo and breadcrumbs...
Form into a patty, dredge in Panko crumbs and brown...
Place in oven to finish baking.. Top with horseradish sauce mixed with mayo. You can make them small as an appy. These are dinner size...
I look forward to seeing what you have this week.

Thanks for hosting, Kathleen! I'm happy to join the party this week. I can never get over your bargains, and what you do with them. Great table! ~Zuni
ReplyDeleteLove the colors on your table using the throw as a tablecloth was genius! Your food looks delicious, as always! Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteI love the table, Kathleen. Those throws are so pretty from Kohl's. I also love the cable knit one over the chair. Your dinner looks delish. I thought you didn't like seafood!! Thanks for hosting your party. It's cold down here in Texas, so I'll be prepared for your party on the 23rd.
ReplyDeleteI don't like fish, shellfish is fine! :)
DeleteCozy and warm, masculine and delicious! Perfect. Dianne
ReplyDeleteWhat an unusual color scheme and it definitely says winter to me. Nice for a man's birthday dinner any time of the year. Your dinner last night was right up my alley. xo
ReplyDeleteLooks like a cozy setting. Definitely would fit into the weather we are having here. It's been cold and raining for the past few days. Dinner looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI really love this black and white color scheme. One of your best!
ReplyDeleteYour table is perfect for here today. It's been gloomy and raining but not cold. Even with grays, you managed to make the table pretty. The centerpiece perked it up. Your food looks amazing!...Christine
ReplyDeleteWhat great use for those throws. They really make the table. It is just perfect... Your food looks yummy...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a warm/cozy January table K! They're calling for the 60's this weekend-truly amazing:@)

I can't get over how great the napkins look with the throws!!! This table looks to be a perfectly fine spot to dine, male or female.. Love the dishes. Thanks so much for hosting. Looking forward to a fun 2013 at your tables.. xo marlis
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Kathleen, the throw is just perfect for a winter dinner table and it is a beautiful setting too! Pretty dishes and yummy food as always, chefKathleen. Thank you for hosting this terrific party! Hugs,
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Hi there, little woman! Don't worry...the sunshine is headed your way, I think. We've had lots of sunshine and relative warmth here the last couple of days. We're expected to hit a record on Friday somewhere close to 70!!! Then the bottom drops out over the weekend with temps struggling to make it to the 30s! :-( This is a great winter table for a lot of reasons: You've got the throw which just automatically throws one's state of mind into the cold winter months. You've got the neutral colors going on, too. I like neutrals year round, but in winter they just seem warm and comforting. I like how your napkins work so well with the throw. FUNNY how you stayed during the fire alarm!!! With prices like that, I can't say I wouldn't have done the same! Your food looks really good. I have been craving shrimp lately. I'm sure it's nothing here like it is there. Us folks in the Midwest are used to that "day old" stuff, though! :-) Have a great week, and I hope things brighten up real soon!!!
ReplyDeleteAs cute as this Manly Man's table is, the food has my rapt attention! We had cheese and crackers plus some raw veggies and wine because I was tired! (Or Tarred, as some here say ;>P
ReplyDeleteGreat idea by the way, to use a pair of throws as a table cover. Thanks for the party!
Hi Kathleen. I am back from taking a long break. Love your masculine table. The throws give the table such a nice look. I have admired those soup tureens before. Yes, I don't think a fire would stop you from grabbing up all those marvelous bargains :).
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to use those gorgeous throws as a basis for your terrific table! I always find it a challenge to create a t'scape that looks more masculine but you've done a wonderful job! The checked napkins are perfect too! I love finding outlet stores as you really can get great deals - never thought of people selling them on Ebay though! I have my doubts on how "reformed" you are when it comes to excess shopping for deals, Kathleen!
ReplyDeleteDD
Pretty table but I will take the food on the plate :-) Looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteKathleen~ Your table looks so inviting & cozy! LOVE your gray fringed throws on your handsome table! I had to chuckle over your shopping through the fire alarms :) Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteEven if I'm not a guy, I would like to be at this warm and cozy table. The dinner is one I'd like, too. It's always fun to see what you do.
ReplyDeleteTable looks great and now I can finally partake in the seafood! Looks delicious. Happy healthy new year to you and your family, Kathleen. Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteThis table is cozy if that throw on there. It really warmed the table up. Thank you for hosting Kathleen and have a fun day! (and thanks for shring at TTF!)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Kathleen! I have to come back tonight (after work, LOL) to visit! Pam
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting from BNOP and linking up as well! I love your tablescape! We kind of had the same idea! I used a wool throw on my table as well! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteHello Kathleen, This is the second week I have joined your party and I am enjoying it very much. Your tablescape is lovely as always. The food looks great as well. Warm and cozy and we love the feeling.
ReplyDeleteIt is gloomy here as well but not too cold. Crazy weather really.Happy day to you and yours.
xo, Jeanne
Your subtle tablescape resembles my wardrobe!! I adore black & white & tan together & wear it frequently...with bright red lipstick for a splash of color. LOL
ReplyDeleteI am impressed that you went back for your bargains after the fire alarm. You have your black belt in shopping!!
I don't know if my recap of 2012 would have qualified for this party, as it just has photos of various foods served on the island. I won't link up unless you tell me otherwise. I don't want to misbehave & not follow the rules.
I think it is good that you are encouraging folks to get rid of that verification stuff. I put an explanation of how to do it on my sidebar.
Warm Hugs,
Rett
I think I am too early for your winter and ice challenge, I may have to link back to this one. Sorry. Didn't realize until after I had posted!
ReplyDeleteWell, perhaps I can be an inspiration, haha. (Yeah, right.)
I LOVE your "guy friendly" tablescape - oh and your bargains, too! Whoo hoo!
Thank you for hosting!
Love your black, tan and white gentleman's table. Those seafood cakes are calling me...I usually make crab cakes, hadn't thought to combine it with shrimp so will be trying it soon.
ReplyDeleteWinter here this evening. 15 degrees and snow. I wish our gray day looked as pretty as your table! I always love seeing your lions head bowls. Thanks for hosting each week Kathleen. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy husband would love it. It would be a welcome change from the colors that I generally surround him with at the table!
ReplyDeleteYour color scheme is perfect for January weather, Kathleen. Snow is in the forecast this weekend. Your salad looks delicious - love seafood cakes and shrimp.
ReplyDeleteMasculine, maybe, but I think it looks very refined also. What a great deal on the throw - something I have to remember to look for too.
ReplyDeleteWe've been having a bit of a warm spell here the past couple of days and all of our snow is melted now! Big temperature changes coming up in the week ahead though, so we won't put away the warm throws just yet :)
I love those throws but I certainly didn't need one yesterday! It got "warm" here ;o)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Pottery Barn yesterday, they had a beautiful grey bed was and we adored it. Of course, it had a million pretty pillows on it that I would have to buy. LOL This is a great table for January. It "cleanses the palate".
I'd say sophisticated. The gray throws are wonderful. I'm probably too late to jet by Kahls in search of them. I never show Sweet Mister pics of your menu items. I don't want him to realize what he's missing! Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteYou want cold weather? Come to Colorado! It has been 0 to 13 degrees since we arrived..lol! It feels less cold than it would in NYC, however, as it is a dry cold.
ReplyDeleteI survivd the move and now I await the moving truck tomorrow --wish us luck!
