November~Deep Purple~Poached Pear & Chicken Salad

You know I don't like orange. {and chickens!  :) }  I thought I would get away from the orange and rusts this week, and do purple.

I took a white reticulated pedestal bowl filled it with a leaf garland, purple mums, dusty miller from my yard, and mini white pumpkins from Tues. Morning.

October Witches 329

I started with a deep purple cloth from CTS, white chargers from Noritake years ago, and purple plates from le Wal Mart.

Clearance, 1.50

October Witches 334

October Witches 351

The dark purple dotted plate is made in Portugal from Pier One, clearance a few months ago, 1.68

October Witches 330

The Italian bakers in deep purple are from HG.  I recently found some in blue at CTS for less than half of what I paid in HG!

The flatware is gold, purple and gold are fallish, and I never remember to use the gold.  It is by Farberware.

I used a purple and a white napkin with a purple flower ring from BBB, clearance .99

October Witches 344

Gold spreaders, a gift from The Tablescaper, and little white butter plates from CTS.

I have white turkey salt and peppers, but they flew the coop, or they are up  high and I didn't feel like climbing the ladder, so I caught these birdies from Pier One and pressed them into duty.

October Witches 333

The purple stems are from Villeroy and Boch when they closed their store here in  Southampton.

With only one more week till Thanksgiving , I know many of us are thinking Christmas.

I also know many of you have been looking at magazines and Pinterest for ideas.

SO ARE YOU READY FOR A THROW DOWN?

Instead of doing a Winter White party this year, I would like you to find a Holiday  tablescape  you like from a mag or the net, and recreate it.  It can be simple or elaborate, your call.  The party will be on Dec. 14th.  I will be celebrating 3 years of blogging, and there will be a giveaway to go along with it.

So start thinking about it, I hope it will be fun.  Are you up for the challenge?

Show us the original and your take on it.

I know it is a busy time of year, so no pressure if you can't join in.

I haven't found mine yet, so I will be looking for one too!

**********************************************

We have dinner salads here about once a week.

I add in chicken, or shrimp or steak.

This time I poached some pears in a little butter, cinnamon , sugar and apricot liqueur.

I pounded the chicken cutlets thin, seasoned them and dredged in flour, yes, just flour, no egg or anything.

Brown them in a little oil, remove to a paper towel, and slice when cool enough.

October Witches 321

Toss baby spinach in a bit of sugar and salt and pepper to taste.  Sliced red onions,  crumbled bacon, feta cheese, or another to your liking, Foley,:)  sliced tomatoes , etc.  Arrange the sliced chicken on top of your other ingredients, place the poached  pears on top, and pour the rest of the poaching liquid over the salad.  Top with toasted nuts.

October Witches 322

If you think you might play along for the throw down, let me know.  If I get at least 10 it's a go.  The more the merrier but it doesn't have to be the event of the season!  :)

I have this adorable Cookie Exchange kit from WSonoma.  I know some of you do cookie exchanges, this would be great.  And maybe some have thought about having one, so do it!

October Witches 345

Open to all followers who are interested, just leave one comment saying you want in, ,no tweeting, bleating, face booking  etc. easy!

Winner announced this weekend so I can get it into the mail .

I am joining Susan for Tablescape Thursday

Gollum for Foodie Friday

Sherry for Open House Friday

Diann for Thrifty Things Friday

Thanks for visiting!

  2. LOL - don't understand why you want to ruin that fantastic salad with feta!! Would love to dig into it right now.
Love the purple and gold..my high school colors.
I'll look at some ideas for a tablescape - you know you must mean alot to me if I do a tablescape..not my speciality.
Count me in on the cookie exchange kit, that is one thing I do every year at Christmas.

  3. I think the purple and gold depict fall just as much as oranges. Beautiful table, as always, Kathleen. Love the centerpiece...between the hot, dry summer and the frost we have had, there are no flowers left in the front yard! When I first looked at the salad plate I thought they were reticulated and the purple of the dinner plate was showing through!

Yes, I am up to your challenge!

You may toss my name in for the cookie exchange kit, too.

  4. Your table is fabulous and I love your dinner salad, put extra feta on mine, please! You can add my name to the giveaway, but I am not sure about the challenge - lack of materials!! But I will still be celebrating your blogaversary. xo

  5. This is so pretty Kathleen. I can't believe you even have purple china and those pretty purple bakers. Oh, and the pretty flower napkin rings too. The tablecloth is so pretty, and the contrast of the white pumpkins is perfect with it. Your party sounds like fun. laurie

  7. Hey, little woman! That salad looks so good right now. I am SO hungry, and it contains a lot of my favorites. I would love to serve that for luncheon some time. I think it's light enough for that? It sure is pretty! The ladies would love it. Those are pretty cool plates from Le WalMart! ;-) Certainly if you frequent Le WalMart, you MUST visit Jacque Penney (JC Penney!), too! I have actually found some cool stuff (surprisingly!) at JC Penney. They recently closed the outlet store here, though. :-( I am going to try to join in on the photo recreation party. I still have to catch up for Thanksgiving!!! But I am going to try really hard. It sounds like fun! I've often looked at photos and thought, "I could recreate that if I wanted." Now's my chance to put up or shut up! :-)

  9. I like to use purple for fall, Kathleen. With all the white details and the touch of fall leaves, you've created an elegant setting for sure. I'm partial to the white pumpkins. Love the shape of the Italian bakers.

  10. Love the deep purple. I just got an oval baker in that color...couldn't resist. Your table looks great. The challenge sounds like so much fun. I'm guessing I'll not be able to participate but miracles do happen. I'll be in N.C. the first two weeks of December so I'll be way behind with Christmas this year...
Have a wonderful rest of the week!

I think the party is a fine idea, and I will be there with bells on. I think I already know the one I want to do.

I am saving the salad photo and instructions -- it really a great presentation.

  13. Kathleen, I really like your different take on fall colours! Lovely centerpiece and dishes atop the most fabulous tablecloth - love it! Those square Italian bakers would be fun to serve soup in. I'm not sure yet if I'll have time to do a "copy" tablescape but sure would love to try if I can squeeze it in.

  14. I love the deep shades of purple that remind me of eggplants...so pretty. I think purple is a great fall color. Have you seen the purples and golds they are using at World Market for fall? Just beautiful, so I'd say you are rather trendy! What a fun challenge to have. I'm in and I love your giveaway. What a cute idea! I have those sweet birds from Pier 1 also...just love them!

  19. I look forward to your party challenge but as a viewer. Likely won't get around to creating anything. I can not believe the deals you guys get down there.
As I have whined about before how a clearance price here is when they take 20% off the much too high price to begin with.
That salad makes my mouth water though and has all the things I love. I never use egg, just the flour and some good olive oil.

  22. I love the purple. It's a great harvest color and so underutilized. Happy to see you're using the gold spreaders. You are so right about the gold flatware. I rarely remember to use mine. And we're always out there looking for other colors! LOL!

  28. Today, I went with "Flirt with orange, but don't embrace it." I agree, I'm really not a big fan of orange, either. The purple is so rich and elegant...works great with your white pumpkins. Thanks for another great recipe...I'm going to have a Cuisine Kathleen cookbook. I know exactly to whom I'm going for the copycat Holiday meme....such fun. I'll create it for one of several gatherings that I'm hosting. Cherry Kay

  29. I knew we were kindred spirits - I don't really like orange either (love the white pumpkins for fall we have now) This is so pretty. That shade of purple is definitely a fall shade. This is the second table I have visited tonight that used that shade. I have those ruffled plates too. I just love them.

Your comments on my wedding reception were so funny! Joni always says she thinks you are the funniest blogger out there. I have to agree! Have a wonderful day.

  40. Very beautiful table! My daughter loves purple and it will be a big part of her wedding celebration.

I was in New Hampshire this weekend and what was right next to the hotel? A Christmas Tree Shop! I went in to shop, but I didn't find the wonderful bargains you seem to find, Kathleen. Still, I spent enough $ in there...lol!

I will check out my magazines and try to see if I can join in your blog party idea.

  48. Well, first, I love your table with all that deep purple. I was thinking about going deep pink/plum this year for Thanksgiving but I never got around to finding everything I wanted so I shucked it. I also love the pear salad. I was looking for a fallish salad when I thought my luncheon club was coming here. This would have been perfect. I'm pinning it so as not to forget it for January when they do come.

The tablescape party sounds fun. If I can get those ducks of mine in a row, you'll see me here.
