I was going back through my early blog posts for Halloween. This is a table I did for a party in 2009, Black Widows Luncheon. Not too many saw it, so I thought I would show it.
I used hydrangeas from my garden and sprayed them black. Tucked in some Baby's Breath and surrounded a white pumpkin with them. I raised them up on a bowl.
I draped the chandy with spiders and witches. I used fishing line to look like webs, or maybe they were cob webs I forgot to dust away! :) What's a cob anyway?
I decided on the black napkin with an alabaster ring and of course a spider.
I used silver chargers, checked dishes and a jet black soup bowl.
The ladies all got a little notebook as a lagniappe, or take home. I learned that word from a Southern gal!
Poison mushrooms held the name cards. You can see in the pic above I cut a witch hat to write the name on.
I decided to show this a as so many of us still have faded hydrangea that can be cut and sprayed gold or silver or what ever your little heart desires for use in arrangements for the holidays. They can be saved too, I have used the black ones a few years now.
For dessert to keep with the black and white theme...

In 2009 I was still up in a tree and knew nothing nada zilch about this wonderful world called Blogdom. So I am happy to see this table. Very striking and a little edgy!! I love that you spray paint hydrangeas. I saw these black ones on a Chinese New Year post you did. And congrats to the winners. xo
ReplyDeleteYour table looks great! Perfect for the Black Widows Lunch.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of painting hydrangeas...hmmmm...now you've got me thinking.
Congrats to the winners!
Great looking table! The hydrangeas are beautiful sprayed black, love the table.
ReplyDeleteAnd the giant Oreo! Make mine double-stuff :)
I remember that table, it is one of my favorites that you have done.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Laurie and Cherry Kay!
I've spray painted sedum a deep wine for Xmas but never hydrangeas...will have to grab some, I love yours.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all the winners!
Hi, Kathleen. Thanks for visiting me...and yes, thanks to you and others, I'm finding more and more parties. I'm so glad you re-posted this setting, because of course I wouldn't have seen it last year. Very, very cool, and interesting and fun. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun, festive table! :D The Oreo cake is adorable, too. Congrats winners!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your winners!
ReplyDeleteI remember this table! Good question, what is a cob? I can see your camera reflected in that little mushroom.
I love black flowers and grow many in my garden.
ReplyDeleteNever occurred to me to spray some other black and bring them in.
Guess it wouldn't be a good thing to spray a living plant though would it. No black roses for me.
I really like the theme, Kathleen! Those checkered plates are wonderful. What a fun time your guests must have had. Congrats to your winners~
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun Halloween table Kathleen!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats to Laurie, she will put it to good use!
Hugs,
Cindy
What a fun luncheon! I want to come to your house to play! The cake is really cool.
ReplyDeleteYou sure know how to make Halloween a really special event. That cake is Special!

What a gorgeous table! I love the painted hydrangeas!! Congrats to the winners!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful table. I love the idea of spraying the hydrangeas and white pumpkins are my new favorite!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been around much. We were gone for 2 weeks and last week it seemed as if I had so much to do to catch up from being gone. I'm trying to do some catching up today. I always have such good intentions and I don't know where the day goes!!
I really don't know that I ever would have thought to spray hydrangea black. What a novel idea! It looks really cool all clustered together like that under the pumpkin. The "poison mushroom" place card holders are great!!! I have never seen those! So cute! You could totally do a "Snow White" table with those! (Weren't there dancing mushrooms in that movie? Or was that "Alice in Wonderland"?) The oversized Oreo had to have been the hit of the party! My husband would be forever beholden to me if I made him one of those!!! Congratulations to Cherry Kay and Laurie for their big wins!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI never saw this cool table! Very happy that you reposted it for us.
ReplyDeleteI am sooooo going to raid the last of my neighbors hydrangea plants...shhh, don't tell!
Love those little mushroom placeholders & the monkeys are cute, too.
Congratulations to both Cherry Kay and Laurie! You are so generous in your give-aways, Kathleen.
Hugs,
Rett

ReplyDeleteHow fun for the winners! I agree, I have most of my stuff that most of my followers haven't seen. Glad you redid this. I love the painted hydrangeas and all of the fun black and white. Great dessert too. I always wanted one of those pans.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember this one Kathleen so I'm glad you reposted it. I really like the name "Black Widows Luncheon"! Your hydrangeas looks wonderful in ANY colour but are especially striking in the black for this tablescape. The poison mushrooms with witches hats make terrific placecards and I like the white mini-pumpkins on the glasses.
ReplyDeleteDD
You are SO clever, and that cake is about the cutest thing ever. AND it looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila
I love your black and white table. Your dishes and linens are perfect with all of your accessories. The hydrangeas sprayed are just unreal. What a fabulous idea. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, marty
ReplyDeleteI really love that cake, it kind of looks like a big Oreo cookie. Richard from Amish Stories.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo...here's sendin' those lucky pant winners Laurie and Cherry Kay a big old Ozarks......
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS!!!
Now girl, I want me a big old bite of that giant Oreo lookin' cake...please???
Your tablescape looks magnificent sweetie.
God bless and have yourself a terrific Tuesday!!! :o)
Congratulations to Laurie and Cherry Kay!
ReplyDeleteI am so lame that I didn't realize you could paint dried hydrangeas. I love the look of them black with the baby's breath. They set off that whole table just perfectly.
I really, really wish I had a hydrangea bush or ten. Sigh.
Love all the black and white!!
ReplyDeleteI never think to spray paint them, but it's a great idea. Then it doesn't matter what condition they're in. Ah...yes, I was with you when we scored those beaded Waverly napkin rings. I think I need to have a giveaway too - or at least use them! LOL!
ReplyDelete- The Tablescaper
Fun, fabulous table, and that's from someone who doesn't like spiders. LOL
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Laurie and Cherry Kay!
Oh my, I just now see that I won your runner-up prize in the drawing. I'm going to choose the ...this is a hard choice...Waverly beaded napkin rings because I think that I'll use them more often. The money place card holders are darling, though! Thank you so much! I'll send you my email. Love your black and white tablescape. The cookie cake is spectacular. I've seen the pans before, and it's fun to see the results. Thanks again! Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteKathleen, I'm dropping back by to talk Beall's. It's funny, but I find the things at the outlet much more to my liking. It's a shame they aren't online. I have found some really fun, really cute things there. Things I don't recall seeing at the regular store.
ReplyDeleteAnd I got my favorite pair of tennis shoes ever, Ralph Lauren pink and brown plaid, there (and bought two pairs because I knew I would wear them to death and have)! LOL! You never know what you'll find there, but I pop in and have found fun, FUN things. I have some monkey things that are knockoffs (I'm convinced) of some of the Lynn Chase china pieces and could mix well with it. I need to tablescape with it at some point. I just wish you could get down here at some point and see what they have. Maybe I ought to take a camera there and see if anyone wants anything I find. LOL! Might be a fun blog thing.
XO,
Sheila
Love the black and white Kathleen, and I don't remember this luncheon. Glad you reposted! Congrats to the winners.
