This was a chair that was in my mom's home. How old, I don't know, but I remember her having it reupholstered every few years.
The cushion is down and I can remember as a child reminding people to puff the cushion when they got up, much to my mother's chagrin! Just repeating what she always told us! ;)
Last April, I decided I was going to have 2 of her chairs redone. Yes, I found a good place to have it done, but it took me months to find the fabric. I don't know what has happened to me, the woman who picked tile for 4 bathrooms in one afternoon! I can't seem to make decisions quickly.
Anyway, I finally found something for all the work to be done. I got all the fabric at Duralee.
Picked up on Sat., and returned the next. 4 chairs and a sofa. And the sofa was converted from a 2 cushion to 3, and a tight back from loose cushions.
Pretty good in a week!
I was informed it was called a FAN chair. It is in my living room.
Of the four pieces I had done, I like how this came out the best.
I think she would like it. :)
These are the 2 fabrics I picked for the den. But that is for another day!
And I know, it is more expensive to have furn reupholstered, but the quality is better than is what's out there. I looked! We didn't want leather, and I couldn't find anything of good quality unless I remortgaged the house! :)
I am joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday.
Very pretty, and such wonderful memories! I agree, it's expensive, but if the furniture has good bones, it's definitely worth it. Have a blessed week and NEW YEAR! Sandi
ReplyDeleteNo more "poofing" the cushion!! Love the way it turned out. Can't wait to see what you did in the den with the toile! I like the computer programs where you can see what a piece of furniture will look like with various fabrics..my imagination is waning these days!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful chair! The fabric is perfect. I like the den fabric also. I have two chairs that I have debated about having recovered. I like the chairs...You are right, they don't make them that way anymore...decisions, decisions!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, Kathleen, and I love how you told folks to fluff the chair up! Too funny!
ReplyDeleteOh to have family treasures! It's beautiful and with a patina that money can't buy!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful Kathleen! I like you telling guest to poof it up as well. If we heard it as kids how were we to know it couldn't be repeated, LOL! Can't wait to see the den.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Kathleen! I love the chair form and the upholstery. Pretty fabric. I like the toile too, can't wait what you do...Christine
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! I think it's wonderful when people give old pieces a new lease on life ~ the quality is so much better.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Kathleen, It's SO wonderful that you have that chair! I sure wish I had a few of the pieces that were in my family...
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
Hugs, Donna
How beautiful Kathleen! I love the shape of the chair and the fact that it was your Moms makes it that much more special. Can't wait to see your sofa!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to update a treasured piece. It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful chair. The fabric is gorgeous. Can't wait to see what you do with the other fabric.
ReplyDeleteCarol
It came out great - and so fast too! It's great to have this piece from home with you.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love it! My grandmother had two chairs of a similar shape. I have always wished that they had ended up in our line of the family. I am crazy about the fan backs.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Kathleen.
ReplyDeleteI love the den fabrics you chose, also.
I used to help my MIL with her upholstery business many years ago and that chair definitely has good bones. It looks lovely. You made a great choice of material. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThe chair looks fab, Kathleen! Great style!! You know I sell furniture, but sometimes, it IS better to recover something when the piece has sentimental value and there is no style replacement out there! There are still some great companies making good quality furniture, but often, customers don't want to pay the price. I am having a pair of chairs re-covered by the guy who works for us, only because I really, really like their style. When we bought them 30 years ago for our first house, WHOLESALE cost on each was $400. Yikes~ Now you know why I'm re-covering! LOL Love your red fabric choices for your next project! ~ Sue
ReplyDeleteOh, I love it! Your "new" chair looks fantastic and I really like the fabric you chose. I hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteIt came out beautiful! I agree, if you love a peice, have it redone. I think it is worth the money....did I tell you I have a few peices that need to be redone! I just don't find the time to look for fabric. I think you have just added one more thing to my very, very long To Do list! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Kathleen! Wow, the chair looks lovely. Beautiful fabric. And boy, does that down cushion look comfortable!! I should do this to one of my mom's chairs that I have back in my shed, but I know, recovering IS expensive! Great job though.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Gloria
The chair turned out great, Kathleen! What a wonderful piece and what great memories it brings with it. Can't wait to see the rest :)
ReplyDeleteLove the back on that chair, Kathleen! Nice fabric choice, too!
ReplyDeleteKathleen, the chair looks so pretty, and lucky you to find a good upholsterer. I can't wait to see the den. Loving those fabrics - of course, you know I'd love the toile. Now, I cannot believe you have been sick again. Do you take any kind of vitamins? The grinch visits you way too often - and even when it's not Christmas. When I get sick, my husband always says it's because I don't eat well. I KNOW that's not your problem. Surely you eat that beautiful, delicious - looking food you cook! Please take care of yourself. Hugs, laurie
ReplyDeleteOmigosh, I can hear my girls now teasing me about frumping up the pillows. How else do you keep them looking nice!
ReplyDeleteI love the fan shape of your mother's chair, Kathleen. I'm not familiar with that style and think your choice of fabric is just perfect. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the red and white toile.
ReplyDeleteI always prefer to reupholster a piece I have rather than buying something new. So I'm not the only one who gets sentimentally attached to a love seat or chair?
I love how your chairs turned out, and I think the fabric selections are lovely choices.
ReplyDeleteBest part of redoing these chairs is that they were your Mom's. You can still enjoy them..and the happy 'Poofing' memories!
I'm a toile and plaid gal...so I'm looking forward to seeing how your other chairs turn out with those choices.
Love your chair! It turned out beautiful, and I love the shape also!
ReplyDeleteShe's a beauty! You must be thrilled with the result. You can't put a price tag on the memories. I'm looking forward to seeing the other pieces you've had done.
ReplyDeleteYour Mom's chair looks beautiful! It is not only well made but sentimental.
ReplyDeleteAfter all that, I am glad you are happy with the chair! Can't wait to see the toile - love the fabric!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you're pleased with the job they did. The chair turned out beautifully. I can't wait to see the rest. I can't believe they did all of that in one week!
