Peppermint Stripes and Checks, OH MY! Let’s Dish #91

A week from today is Christmas! Doesn’t it seem like we just did Thanksgiving?  The older I get, the faster the time goes, and the longer it takes to get everything done!

Well of course, when I was younger I never had time to go to lunch with friends during the school year, and never during the Cmas season!  But today, I had a little shopping trip and lunch with my loooong time friend, Gail. We had a lovely time catching up, one of the joys of being retired!

You know Gail, the one who gifts me with all those wonderful tablescaping goodies!  We found some bargains at Christmas Tree Shop.  She had a great iphone app, so we got 20% off our whole order!  I think I need an iphone.

I’ll save what I got for another post, on to tonight’s table!

035

Nothing on this table is new.  I started with a red and white snowflaked check cloth I got for 90% off last year AFTER Cmas.  I think it came to 2.00, and it is cotton.

023

Next came the lacey charger from Ikea that Alma gave me for my birthday.

A red and white swirled plate, a lacey white plate, and then a little bowed bowl, all from CTS.

041

The centerpiece is an inverted striped bowl with a red ruffled bowl on top.  I used oasis and filled it with fresh greens, mums, babies breath and candy canes.  I used a snowflake embroidered doily underneath.  My friend’s mom made them many years ago. It reminded me of the edge of the charger.

036

Napkins are dish towels from CTS, and the red flatware is by Cambridge, via CTS.  The little candy striped butter plates were .25 after Cmas.  Candy striped salt and pepper shakers were 1.00.

029

I used a floor length cloth underneath the checked.

Red stems are from CTS.  The striped pitcher is by Nautica via Pfaltzgraf.com  I used a polka dot pedestal to stack the striped boxes of cookies as a take home.

040

A little striped spoon from WS is used for a place marker.

DH is feeling well enough to make the traditional Rugelach.  Thank goodness, as I don’t know how, and I don’ t want to learn or it will become my job!

See you Sunday for Alma’s Seasonal Sunday!  I want to show you my 7 ft tree I put up on the porch!  It was an after Christmas bargain for sure!

  5. Hi Kathleen - Oh my goodness, I wish you lived in my town so I could borrow this entire table for our Candy Canes and Cocktails party. I'm linking the Partyscape tonight, and you will see it's still lacking some items. But like you purchased everything after Christmas... half the fun is in the hunt for the perfect pieces! Merry Christmas to you and Yours. Hugs, Holly

So happy to hear your husband is feeling better!
I'll try to remember to stop by Monday or Tuesday. Not sure if I will have a table. We'll see. In case I don't get to come by then, I'm wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!

  9. Hey, Kathleen! I see that spoon has an "A" on it, so that must be MY place setting? Correct? :-) Thanks for having me over! ;-)

You say nothing on the table is new, and that's what makes it extra cool. You've once again created something that looks totally fresh with things you already have on hand. That's the way to design!!!

I have been very careful NOT to go online to see CTS. I don't want Ramon to put me out in the cold at Christmas time for spending too much!

Thanks again for hosting this terrific blog party!!! Have a great weekend as you scurry to get things done!

Wow, to have a DH who makes Rugelach - yummy! Glad M is feeling better! Now, all you need is a little snow outside those windows...that grass looks a bit too green for my taste! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Kathleen!

  31. I love your table, and I'm really glad I saw your centerpiece. I was going to buy one from the grocery store for Sunday's family get-together, but I can make one like yours for a lot less money, I think I can use a Christmas coffee mug and it will look cute. Great idea with the white flowers and candy canes. Merry Christmas!

  32. "Peppermint" is such a cheerfully festive theme for the holidays! In fact, it's one of my favorites, and I included it as one of the first themes in the daily Themes of Christmas series I'm doing. Your table is a treat for young and old alike! ...So thankful your hubby is feeling better! (TOTALLY understand what you mean about not wanting to take on a new task!) Merry Christmas, Kathleen!
