Memorial Day CHALLENGE~ Let’s Dish # 63

Hope everyone is ready for Memorial Day!  It has been hectic here, lots of work going on!  I have been working and working! I am sure many of you have been doing the same, a BUSY time of year!
003
While the deck expansion is going on, the workers showed up to put some sod where the beautiful flowering tree we lost in Sandy was.

I didn’t want to trust just seeding it as the party is in June, and it was quite noticeable.   I did some of the pots, and they are ready to be placed as soon as everything is done.

Tonight is the CHALLENGE, a patriotic table to honor those who gave their lives for our country.  If your table doesn’t follow this theme, you can post it next week.
It has to be tablescape related too!

026
In between all this, I set a table!

I used a patriotic themed cloth and matching napkins via Boscovs.com

Flatware via HG, red ceramic charger PB Outlet, blue dinner, CTree Shops, White star Pfaltzgraff Outlet, sm red bowls CTS.

Red knotted napkin ring from CTS also.

002
A red star plate, wicker basket filled with white, red geraniums and blue lobelia and some flags.
Blue candle holders, .89 CTS

Red stemware, CTS.  Stars clipped on to the glasses as place markers.  I got them years ago and used them in a post, but I couldn’t remember where I got them.  They are tablecloth weights, and Alma reminded me they were from $ Tree.

Gen. Libutti is my childhood friend from Huntington and is a retired US Marine.  He served and was wounded in Vietnam.

I set a place for him, and for a friend from college, Whitey, who was killed in Vietnam.

005
Since the top cloth is a bit skimpy, it was adv as 70, but it was only 60, I used a floor length red cloth under it. (Boscov’s has since corrected the size, but it is not 100%  cotton as stated.
They gave me a partial credit, I will sew  ruffle on it to lengthen it)  I got it on sale, but I see it is back to regular price!

006
011
Patriotic watering cans at each place hold a flag.

They are tooth brush holders, lol, but for .19 cents I knew I would find a use for them.  Alma, do you remember I got them for you too?

I hope to use them down the middle of my July 4 th table and put flowers in them.

The blue and red ceramic fish salt and peppers are from CTS a few weeks ago. The extra blue napkin rings on the table…I forgot to remove!  No, they are to add texture, LOL!

020
I hope I can do the deck/covered porch  reveal soon, I can’t wait to get everything set up!

The shed is getting a spruce up too, a new step and the doors are getting new crossbars.   I did plant the window boxes back there though!

Of course, the pollen is still falling so everything has to be wrapped to protect it from getting green!

Tonight there will be a drawing for a set of star pancake molds from WSonoma.  Just be a follower and leave a comment that you would like in on the drawing.

  5. Hi Kathleen - Thanks so much for hosting! I love the patriotism and your table and your wishes to our Vets.

We are 48 hours away from our big party and I don't have a tablescape to share yet because our deck looks like yours. Minus the workers - they didn't show up today! Yikes! Anyway, I'm linking up a few of my Memorial Day posts from the week - hope it is ok. Hugs, Holly

  7. You always have such great patriotic tables, Kathleen. Did your workers think you set that table for their lunch?! I really like the napkin rings.
I would be more than happy to take those molds off your hands...
    Have a great week!

  9. Kathleen, I cannot wait for all of your "after" photos! The deck project looks great, so far. Love your table, especially, that fabulous flatware. Also, I think the idea of using toothbrush holders is brilliant! I would love to be included in the give-away - hope you have a Happy Memorial Day!

  10. You really do have a busy time, Kathleen. But, you surely managed to put together a stunning table. And despite the shortage of inches...the patriotic table cloth really looks spectacular with the full red table skirt. Thank for the Memorial Day prompt...it got me on track...Yay!
Hope your Memorial weekend is extraordinary!

  11. Kathleen, your table is soooo festive! Love the little watering cans with flags, and the table topper looks great to me, but it is such a bummer when you buy something that isn't what it was advertised. Your deck and yard are going to look wonderful when you've finished, and I know it will get a lot of use. I want to know if any of those guys, working in your yard, had anything to say about you setting a table out there where they were working. Did they think you were going to serve them a meal? Please add my name for a chance to win the pancake molds. Thank you for hosting, and have a wonderful weekend. laurie

  12. Your deck is looking good already, Kathleen, and I can't wait to see it all "decked" out! Your table looks beautiful in all it's patriotic glory. Thank you so much for hosting and I appreciate the opportunity to win the giveaway, but I feel that I have had my share of winnings. xo

  13. Kathleen, I just love coming here to see your beautiful tables and one of these days I am going to start up the kitchen blog again and start joining in your wonderful parties.

Your table is beautiful - and what a great idea using a toothbrush holder as flower holders. Might have to copy that idea next time I see them cheap somewhere.

  15. What a WONDERFULLY Patriotic tablescape, Kathleen!! Your glass ware looks fabulous in the sun & using the table weights as place markers was a clever idea. So was the toothbrush holders! ANY toothbrush holder would work GREAT as a built in flower frog. I'll never look at one the same way again...I'll be forever arranging flowers in them. LOL

Your deck & yard are going to be spectacular...I can't wait for the big reveal. Hope you're taking LOTS of progress pictures.

Thanks for doing this fun challenge this week. I needed something to take my mind off the horrors on TV.

Hope you have a safe & touching Memorial Day.

    fondly,
    Rett

  20. Love your patriotic table and all the others who joined in. It would be great to win the star pancake molds as my granddaughter loves to have blueberry pancakes when she visits and it would be perfect for her July birthday.

  21. Hey, Kathleen!!!! Boy, what a day! Out shopping with my Mom, and boy can she shop!!! I am just about worn to the bone!!! I am SO tired, but I wanted to be sure to read your post before calling it a night and pulling the covers over my head.

You did a super job with this table! It's sweet that you dedicated it to 2 REAL heroes. The little watering cans...what a hoot!!! Hey...you do what you gotta do, right? :-) I imagine the little holes for the toothbrushes can double as a "frog" for arranging the flowers when you do them for the 4th of July table!

Is that legal for those folks to advertise something as 70" cotton when it's really a 60" something-or-other else??? Hmmmm. They need to check themselves before they wreck themselves! That's not right!!! I'm glad you know how to sew. You'll be able to lengthen that puppy in no time flat! It's pretty, so I'd really like to see you get as much use from it as possible.

Dang skippy I want in on the drawing for the pancake mold!!!!!!!! Drop my name in that hat, baby! I'm all in! I can use them for making either fluffy light pancakes to eat or for making heavy, lethal death stars to throw at people! :-)

Have a good one, and hang in there, baby. That deck will be done in no time, and you will be able to enjoy it for years to come! The shed is lookin' good, too, with those window planters!!!!! Later, dude!

  29. I loved your table as always, especially that you set it to remember those who served and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I know what you mean by BUSY. I feel like a little mouse on a treadmill half the time. It was nice to have an excuse to stop and play with dishes for a minute.

THANK YOU as always for hosting, and thank you, as always, for your table inspiration.

  33. Gosh I just love Boscovs! They may mess up but their online clearance section is awesome. Speaking of awesome, your table Kathleen! Love it all. And setting it outside among the chaos? What a trooper you are :-) My favorites would be the toothbrush holders and the blue napkin rings added for more texture ;-) Add my entry right next to Alycia's for that pancake mold please! Have a wonderful holiday weekend Kathleen.

  35. I can picture that beautiful, widened patio with your happy family enjoying it, Kathleen. It's a wonderful time of year with the entire promise of summer ahead and a time to remember all of the brave souls who protect our nation!

  36. It has been so long since I've done a tablescape that I'm beginning to think I need to just have a big ole dish sale at my house. We have been working in the yard (we lost 3 trees in the drought) and working in the basement to prepare for a (ugh) garage sale. Most of the next 2 days will be placing and pricing things for that. I hope by Monday to actually enjoy the holiday! Your table is so festive and pretty...enjoy your weekend!

  37. You've done a great job beautifying your yard for the summer. Everything looks great! THanks for hosting us! Your challenges are always right on the money. Cherry Kay
