The Irish Are Coming! Let’s Dish # 51

Good evening, Ladies!  One week from tonight will be the 5th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Blog Crawl!  I can’t believe this is the 5th year, I am running out of Irish things to show you!  :)

Tonight I am showing you the table I did for my dinner party on March 17th, 2012.  The blog crawl was already over, so I saved it for this year.

I used the plaid wool cloth that you have seen, as well as the Belleek like dishes, mine are from CTS.

Green glass chargers are by Gorham, via Lenox Outlet.

I served the soup in white handled bowls trimmed with gold, but I kept them in the kitchen till the soup was served.

Let's Dish 130

Little toadstools hold the place cards.  On the right you can see a lucky lottery ticket I tucked under each plate.

The toadstools were from the PB Outlet..

I think someone won  $5.00!  Enough for a box of Lucky Charms.

One of the guests is NOT Irish, so his toadstool had the symbol for NO drawn through the flag on the back of his card.  I think he is the one who won the $5.00!

March 2012 093

The napkins are ecru trimmed in green , napkin holders are green mini Blarney stones, :), 25 cents from CTS.

I sat the crystal bowl of fresh white mums and baby’s breath on a mirrored charger, with a few glass shamrocks around the edge.

872

Waterford Crystal, candlesticks by Mikassa.  Glass bowls for our Irish Soda or rye bread were my mom’s.

The flatware is silver trimmed in gold.

We had some green chips…

Close enough recipe here.  I sauteed the leeks, better flavor..Feb 2012 003

Individual Bailey’s Death by Chocolate.

“Irish Connolly’s”, ie,  Chocolate  Cannoli’s filled with whipped green and dipped in green sugar!  :)  Connolly is my maiden name.

Of course we had the traditional corned beef and cabbage, and Irish Flag Soup.

I hope you are getting your Shamrock on, and I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!  Last  year there were over 100 entries, and seas of green flowed throughout blogland!

A Little Thrifting and Something Green

Yesterday when I went down to the drugstore ,(which closes at 12:30 on Sat., imagine!) I parked in front of a new Thrift Shop that opened.  The thrift shops here aren’t too thrifty, seriously, sometimes the stuff is so overpriced it makes me cringe.

This one had its share of the cringe factor, but there were a few shelves with 50% off, and I found this smaller covered tureen, complete with spoon for 3.00.  It was made in Japan, and white, so it will blend in with everything!

IMG_8578

Good for sauce, or a vegetable when it is just us.

I also found these green and white check plates, probably wouldn’t have been tempted if we weren’t coming into the GREEN season. No scratches , made by Potter and Smith ?, whoever they are!

IMG_8577

Speaking of greens, I have never made Brussels Sprouts, and decided it was time.  I saw a recipe from Rachel Ray and decided to give it a try.

I thinly sliced the sprouts, and onions, and quickly fried in a scant amount  of olive oil.  EVOO as she says, :) .

Here’s her recipe.

I shredded them as my friend Carol at There’s  Always Thyme to Cook did a similar recipe, and since I am not a big fan of whole cabbage, I figured this might make them more appealing.

IMG_8571

Hmm, I guess if you like Brussels Sprouts it is good.  I didn’t care for it, nor did dh.

I prefer my cabbage this way.

table 2015

Sliced cabbage, onions, powdered mustard, and lots of pepper with crisply fried bacon added at the end.

Fry the bacon, drain of most of the fat, then quick fry the cabbage and onions in it.

So much better than the kind my mom made, boiled in the pot with the corned beef.

My totally Polish DZ sister, Janice, taught me how to make it this way.  Thank you, even though you decked yourself out from head to toe in ORANGE every St. Patrick’s Day!

She had red hair, so I really  mean head to toe!

I hope you are thinking about something to post to join the 5th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Blog Crawl on Mar. 13th.

Aqua and Blue and a Polish Lady Too~ Let’s Dish

Hello, Ladies, hope you have had a good week!

I am still trying to get use to my new computer, it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but I will persevere. :)

Would you be so kind to take my Blog Crawl button and put it on your sidebar?  Thanks so much!

IMG_8564

I got these plates in the clearance at Christmas Tree Shop.  Johnson Bros. Farmhouse Kitchen Blue Fern.

IMG_8553

Navy with aqua, so that is what I went with tonight.

IMG_8565

A pale aqua tablecloth that was in the clearance of BBB is the start.  It is made from recycled plastic soda bottles, who knew!  Very soft and spill resistant.

Navy blue placemats serve as the charger, again, CTS.

My Pier One Birdies sit on a plate.

IMG_8557

Flatware is from HG, and the square navy  bakers for our soup are from CTS.  I think they were $1.99.

IMG_8559

The aqua rim bubble glass, ( it really is aqua irl, just like the water glass) and aqua water glass are both from a .99 store.

The little candle holders are from Walmart, .25, years ago.

IMG_8556

Navy blue cotton napkins from CTS, in clearance, 6 for $1.24.

IMG_8566

My newly gifted Polish Cheese Lady serves as the centerpiece, sitting on a navy bowl flipped over. Isn’t she cute?  Christine has a whole bevy of them!

IMG_8567

Lift her up and put some cheese in her!

My neighbor gave it to me for posting her Polish Pottery.

IMG_8561

I know, very simple.  I am trying to get back in the groove!

If you need some ideas you can go back to Crawl 1 through 4 and check it out.

No excuses, we can all use a little green these days!  Last year we had over 100 crawlers, so be sure to join in the fun!

Thanks for visiting!  I was able to get Live Writer working with some free Tech support.  It is different than my older version, so it takes a bit of playing around to get it right, but I am very thankful .

QVC offered 4 years of free support from TREND with the purchase and the support is  right here in the USA!

DELL wanted to charge me almost $300 to do it.

They said I would need a software contract to fix the problem on my 5 day old computer.  TREND MICRO did it in 10 minutes.

If you haven’t tried Live Writer, download it for free and give it a shot.  You will love it, I think!

Let's Dish~A Long Way till Spring

I still can't get Live Writer loaded on this new computer, so I am forced to use the antiquated blogger to post.  :(

You can click on the pictures to enlarge.

I took these the other day at the beach here,  Pretty...but really cold!
Spring seems a long way off.

Please remember the 5th Annual Blog Crawl on March 13th.  Anything green, or Irish, is the theme.  Hope you will join in!

Put on your green thinking caps!

Big Paddy will be here to lead us through Blogland, to share the showing of the green!

My thanks again to all those who said prayers for my sister's family on the loss of 8 year old Tommy.

I am not ready to party yet, but I want to open it up for you.

With Sincere Thanks...

I sincerely want to thank you for all your kind words and prayers for my niece and sister on the loss of 8 year old Thomas.

I read each one of them, and someday, when the time is right, I  will show them to my niece and sister.

I told my sister how many people were praying, and your prayers meant so much to us.

I was so touched by your kind words, and expressions of sympathy and friendship.

I leave you with this thought.
The recessional for Tommy's funeral was "This Little Light of Mine."
Each time you light a candle, say a prayer for those who are suffering the loss of loved ones... the loss of a child is such a test of faith.

Again, my heartfelt thanks, you are the best!

The link for Let's Dish will be open  at 7 PM if all goes well.

My new computer was installed and I am having a terrible time.  I was on the phone for 2 hours with DELL as it wasn't loading.

Don't even get me started on where all my pictures are!

I have been unable to load Live Writer, I keep getting a message ...unable to connect to a remote server.  I googled it and did what they said, but no luck.
If you use Live Writer, you can never go back to Blogger to blog, the difference is astounding.

So if anyone has any hints for me regarding Live Writer, please let me know.

Sad News

It has been a very sad week for my family.

My sister's 8 year old grandson passed away.

I hope you will excuse me for not visiting, but my mind has not been on blogging.

I hope to be back next week, we will see.  We all need time to grieve.

We know Thomas is with the Lord , but if you would say a prayer for his family I would appreciate it.

My sister's son was killed when he was 18, and now she must go through this again with her grandson.  She knows the pain her dear daughter will suffer.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

I am opening the link, but I know I won't be able to visit.
